Stop Negative Self-Talk Before it Sucks the Life Out of You

Have you had times when negative thoughts go through your mind – I’m not a good wife and mother because I should be doing this, and that isn’t getting done, and everyone else seems to manage everything why can’t I, and I’m just so tired I don’t care?

If so, it’s time to step back and do something for yourself to create awareness of where those negative feelings are coming from and shift your energy quickly into positive thinking.

Here are 4 tips to help you beat negative self-talk:

  1. Morning and Evening Journaling – This can be as simple as a list of what’s happening and how you feel. The awareness of your thoughts and emotions twice a day gives you an opportunity to stop the negative and shift to a positive energy.
  2. Breathe – Whenever you notice that you feel anxious and the negative self-talk is taking over, just the simple act of breathing consciously can help shift your energy. Consciously breathe in to receive, and breathe out to release.
  3. Exercise – Just moving your body will move your energy and get you out of your mind and back into your body so you can access all of you – not just your relentless analytic side.
  4. Girlfriends – Science says that women connecting to other women releases oxytocin. Reach out to girlfriends who understand you and will let you share your thoughts. You’ll feel good releasing, you stimulate chemicals to support a feel-good mood, and your friend will let you know how fabulous you really are. And be sure to reciprocate!

Women spend so much time giving we need to take time to give back to ourselves so that we don’t burn out or lose ourselves along the way.
